A note from the artist
Many people have worked very hard to make this a
very special experience for all those that attend
and I hope that everyone with a sincere interest in
portrait painting is able to take part. Put this on
your calendar and come join us for an informative
and inspiring painting event unlike any you have ever
seen.
When you first check in, you will be given some unique
and useful handouts that I have prepared. This will
include lists of my materials, details of the set-up,
an outline of what will be covered, and many informative
portrait related materials, including lists and explanations
of key phrases and principles that I stress. One of
my goals is that everyone who attends, regardless
of skill level, will leave with a much clearer idea
of exactly how to improve their ability to paint from
life and perhaps even more important, how to really
enjoy it more!
Throughout the day I will be painting a portrait
from a live model. This will be broken up with the
most exciting and innovative part of the presentation,
which is that I will supplement the painting demonstration
with diagrams, sketches, explanations and other visual
aids on one of the large screens at the front of the
room. The same screens will also enable you to see
every brush stroke as I paint. I will have more time
to work than the typical 2-3 hour demo and will be
able to go much deeper into the skills and knowledge
required to paint a portrait from life. I guarantee
you will hear things you have never heard before at
a portrait demo.
We will be employing two cameras, two computers and
two LCD projectors along with the Pinckneyville sound
system so that everyone is able to both see and hear
clearly from all seats.
The “official” end of the Academy will be at 6:PM
but for those of you who don’t have planes to catch
you won’t want to miss the informal Q&A we will
have from 6-8:PM.
Although the presentation is high tech, the subject
matter is painting a portrait from life. We are employing
current technology to help us explain the techniques
of an age old art form. I have no other teaching planned
for the near future.
Hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Tom
