My creation of a commissioned portrait begins with a personal visit to initiate the process of understanding the subject. This is a key aspect of my portraiture, because only together can we capture your special story through a Portrait in Oil. Once we agree on the elements desired in the portrait, I photograph my subjects in a location that is relevant. During this time, I also develop a color study for composition and assurance that the portrait colors will be accurate. During this time, I also develop a watercolor study for composition and an oil color study for assurance that the portrait colors will be accurate. I am now ready to return to my studio with the required knowledge to start painting. I commit to a regimen that keeps me in the studio on a daily basis. To allow proper drying of my oils, I will have 3 or 4 works in progress at all times.

I create primarily for individuals, families, and executives on the West Coast and the adjacent states. My portraiture often includes the family pets as well as adults and children.
