A deposit of 1/2 the total is required to reserve place on
the painting schedule and to hold the price at it's current level. For complex backgrounds
add 30% and for each additional figure add 50%.
For commitments to commission multiple paintings over a period of time (i. e. children
as they come of age), a 25% reduction of current price is available. The above prices
do not include sales tax, framing, or travel expenses.
1. The first meeting is to discuss and reach agreement regarding
the portrait size, medium, background, clothing, accessories, and any other elements
to be included in the portrait. We also discuss where the portrait will hang and
any precedent to be followed.
From this information, the final price is determined and a contract of agreement
is signed. A one-third deposit is required at this time.
2. The second meeting may occur on the same day or on another date. It consists
of photographing the subject in a variety of outfits, settings and poses. Set-up
for the photography takes about an hour, followed by an hour or more photographing
the subject. At this sitting, a quick oil sketch of the subject's head is normally
done as reference. This takes approximately two hours.
3. Next, a small preliminary color oil sketch and a full-sized preliminary drawing
of the portrait is done. These are presented to the client for approval and/or adjustments.
Upon approval, these are used to begin the actual painting. Several live sittings
are preferred, if schedules permit, but at least one final sitting is needed for
any minor adjustment, correction, and completion of the desired expression of the
portrait.
4. After the final sitting and acceptance of the portrait, payment of the remaining
balance on the contract is due.
5. The cost and selection of the frame is separate from the portrait. Upon request,
framing recommendations can be given.
6. Travel, mileage, shipping, and other associated expenses are additional. These
are itemized and billed separately from the portrait.
