Fearless

You have entered the fearless page. You opened this page because you clicked on the T'ai Chi icon. Why did you do that? Perhaps it is time for you to become fearless.

Can we be Fearless?

Can we be fearless? That is can we be completely without fear? The question was asked twice to confirm you answer. If your answer was yes then read on. If you do not think it is possible to be completely fearless then click back to the home page. Believe me you do not want to read on.

The Fight or Flight Response

Someplace within ourselves there is a button. One that is pressed by this or that when it affects our senses. Most refer to this button as the auto fight or flight response. Our body detects something to be afraid of and all sorts of biological things happen. Breathing becomes shorter, heart beats faster; glands secrete movement and healing elements into our system. We are ready for battle or to run if battle is a certain loss.

Where is that Life and Death Struggle?

Where is that life and death struggle taking place today? Is it in the office or at work? Perhaps it is in a spat with your spouse or an acquaintance. It could even be our children that set off the response. Why, it seems there is no controlling it. When we become stimulated in a certain way, all of the biological fight or flight responses kick in. The body is literally saying this condition is life or death and it reacts accordingly. There are a lot of biological reasons this happens, so doctors give us pills and send us to someone who will work with our psychological make up. Sometimes we say to ourselves "I just need to relax" so we go to the gym, Jacuzzi, massage or acupuncture therapist or some other holistic healer. But when the circumstance presents itself, there it is again, the fear response. Rapid breathing and heart beat, it is the fight or flight response presenting itself for no apparent reason. Office, work or home activities are rarely, truly, life threatening. It has come to the point in some that burnout takes place. Burn out is preceded by heart trouble, glandular or system partial shut down and a feeling of general malaise and sickness. Burn out presents itself in a million unpleasant ways. Each way is unique to the individual. Next organs present malfunctions or even cancer may appear. The body shut down response is surly life threatening. But when that happens it is very late in the game of life.

We need to deal with the Fight or Flight response before it Kills us.

It is certain that we need to deal with the fight or flight response before it kills us. How can we do this? What is the technique? I have rolled it all into one word and that is "Fearless."

How to become "Fearless." Fearlessness is control of the fight or flight response. Yes, it is possible to control fight or flight and it seems every other body response. The fact is there are many ways that humans are trained to control this automatic response. Go to any monastery and you will find the training. Go to a dojo and you will find the training. There is even training going on in churches the problem is so universal. The problem is no one ever really puts the fight or flight response together with the everyday problems of life. It just seems to outlandish. The body is responding to an angry phone call with fight or flight? Yes, it certainly does. It responds to many of today's mundane activities with the fight or flight response.

Twelve Million years of Programming.

This over response may be the result of twelve million years of programming in our genetic and biological systems. Only ten thousand years ago (which is a drop in the bucket compared to twelve million years) humans lived in small tribal groups of usually less than twenty five. Technology was primitive. In that type of culture, fight or flight was very good and effective. However, in ten thousand years, the human body and auto responses have changed very little. So here we are, modern man, advanced in every way the mind can conceive except in our bodies. Has man addressed this obvious imbalance? Yes, he is living longer than ever. Almost three times the length of the human of ten thousand years ago. But has he addressed this fight or flight response. Yes, but in very minor ways. Most just want to ignore this part of our biology.

The Fight or Flight response must get permission.

Becoming "Fearless" is one sure way to address the fight or flight response. If the body perceives a fight or flight situation it wants to respond, but it must get permission from the brain. If we are working from our brain stem or our smallest brain, the human frog brain, that permission is given automatically. It is possible to work from a higher level brain. It is possible to tell the fight or flight response when presented to the brain by the body, "No Problemo" as the terminator would say. It is possible to terminate the fight or flight response, before it moves the body into the inevitable emergency mode.

Time for the Snake Oil.

Now of course you will be presented with the inevitable technique. Yes sir reeee, I have a sure cure for all of your problems. Just take a few sips from this snake oil bottle, or let me do this or that to you and we are on the way to a complete cure for all of life's ills. Sorry, no such thing. Well, not in this life. The road of controlling the fight or flight response is one of turning your back on all of the training you have received in twelve million years of genetics and a life time of societal indoctrination. Yes, from the moment we are born until the moment we decide that we have had enough of fear and the way it affects our life and body.

Shouldn't you have the right to decide?

So now perhaps you are thinking that in some cases it is good to have the fight or flight response. You are absolutely right. But shouldn't you have the right to decide when you are going to respond with all of the activities that go with the primitive response system? Would be nice don't you think? I can not tell you how "you" need to become fearless. However as one who is fearless, I can tell you it is a possibility and point you in a direction that may lead you to working on your own response.

Twelve Million years of Fear Training.

To turn you back on twelve million years and a life time of fear training two things must happen. First, you must realize that minor activities are triggering your life and death response system. It is necessary to isolate the trigger in yourself and find a way to feel when it is being pulled. Or when your fight or flight button is being pushed. At the first sign if anxieties notice if your body is reacting with the symptoms of fight or flight. If it is, make a note of that activity. For some just noting the activities that cause it is a start. Second there are a zillion schools that will teach you to become silent within. That is to quiet the internal dialogue that is running in your mind all day and all night. Learning to quiet this internal dialogue for even a few seconds is a major victory toward controlling the fight or flight response. Quietness of mind stops the fight or flight response like a mountain would a freight train. It takes much practice to train the mind to control the internal dialogue. I use T'ai Chi Chih® and some meditation techniques. However, nearly any mind control training can start you on the way.

The next element is rather Mysterious.

The next element is rather mysterious. The best term I have been able to find for it is recapitulation. It seems that from the time we are born there is a memory of everything. Just ask any hypnotist worth their salt. They will tell you in some un-committal form that you can be taken back to the memory of your birth. Some say even further, but who knows. The memories are there but not present in our conscious mind. All of the fear programming is attached to these memories. It sits like a big fat green alligator in our subconscious waiting to grab at fight or flight whenever it can resurrect itself. These fat green alligators of fear are waiting by the millions, attached to every life experience.

Letting the Alligators go.

Recapitulation is simply remembering a past experience, but letting the alligator go. With practice it can become quite easy and the memories can become quite vivid. Like the first step, there are hundreds of ways to recapitulate our memories. One example would be to start remembering what happened in the past twenty four hours. That is starting from the time we wake up one morning to the next morning, or evening to evening it does not matter. Once we get good at twenty four hours, try forty eight, then a week, a month, a year, ten years, a lifetime. However, each thought that sits there un-recapitulated has an alligator attached to it. It can take five or ten years of regular recapitulation to work through an entire life. But once done, there are no more un-recounted fears in the subconscious and one is free of that feeling in the pit of your stomach.

A Life Endeavor

So the big trick is finding the ability to control the internal dialog for even a few seconds and a good recapitulation. No, this is not snake oil; it is a life endeavor that is best done while we attend to our everyday life activities. If we go to a cave or take ten years on a mountain top someplace, we can not learn to use our ability to control the internal dialogue and the recapitulation within the society we live. I know, sounds impossible, but be assured, it is not impossible. It is the key to moving to the next level of human existence.

Energy Feels Good in Our Bodies.

An unusual reward is given when we take part in this kind of upper level activity. Tremendous amounts of our energy for life is used in these useless fight or flight responses. In addition to that, each memory and it's attached alligator also takes energy. Together, these activities literally suck our energy dry. It is a wonder we even make it through the length of life that we do. What would we do with a hundred million times the energy we now have? What would life be like? What kind of human beings would we become? So much energy, the body would have to find a way to deal with this huge amount of life force coursing through us. The additional energy healing us at every bend, drawing to us the products of our every thought. Creating for us whatever we desire in life. But then, that is the next step for mankind. That is the step in which we move into the manipulation of life energy. Then we have truly moved into the atomic age. The personal atomic age for each and everyone of us. This does not happen all at once. Of course that is a good thing. Another good thing is that the rewards are gradual also. Our energy is given back to us in direct response to our ability to control the internal dialogue and the number of thoughts recapitulated. Energy feels good in our bodies so this practice feels good. It is just the starting that is the tough part. It seems few do this or even know about it. So much easier to follow the fad or what everyone else says is the best way. Look at the products of what everyone else is doing, then decide.

My friends, I hope to see you there soon.
