PROCEDURE
 |
1. At the initial meeting with the artist, you will have the opportunity to review her portfolio and original
paintings, if available. Your ideas about the size, setting, clothing, personal characteristics, and other elements are discussed,
so the artist may begin to develop a mental image of your portrait. A contract with all specifications will be signed and 40%
of the agreed commission will be collected.
2. The same day or at another meeting, the artist will take photographs of the subject in various poses to record as much information
as possible. This time is helpful in getting to know the subjects personality as well as observing their physical characteristics.
This session usually takes one or two hours. With these photos as reference material, the artist produces a rough pencil drawing
in the approximate size of the final painting. This is where the majority of the planning is done, as the artist studies the
subjects proportions and works out the best composition.
3. The rough drawing is then presented for your approval. Adjustments are made on this drawing before the final painting is
begun. At this point, the artist likes to borrow as much of the clothing and background items as possible for life study in
the studio. It would be appropriate to pay an additional 30% of the commission at this time.
4. The final painting is begun. When the portrait has progressed to a certain point or sometimes near completion, the artist
like to meet with the subject for life sittings of two to three hours, when appropriate for the age and availability of the
sitter. These sittings are done in twenty minute intervals with five minute breaks. The comfort and pleasure of the sitter is
given the utmost consideration.
5. The completed and signed portrait will be presented for final approval within 6 to 8 weeks from the time the rough drawing
is approved. For the clients who are unable to visit the studio, a professional 8" x 10" photograph will be sent for
final approval. The painting will then be carefully crated and shipped. The final payment of 30% will be due upon delivery.
Your absolute satisfaction is guaranteed.
