Donna Ayers has been creating beautiful Fine
Art portraiture for families on the Jersey Shore for twenty years. The naturalistic style Ayers favors is influenced by the small
town of Spring Lake, NJ, where she grew up. With a developed skill of capturing the likeness and spirit of her subjects, Ayers brings
together the beauty of portraiture and surroundings to create a painting that will be treasured for years to come.
Donna Ayers' formal training began at the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI, where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree
in Fine Art, 1982. After additional study in Europe and the School of Visual Arts, NYC, Ayers illustrated several children's books
for Simon and Schuster and William Morrow Publishers. Through the illustration of children's books, particularly a Victorian era book
entitled, "The Treasure Trunk", over 150 portraits of Ayers' community were delicately painted in watercolor. It is through
this venture that Ayers naturally discovered her love for portraiture and began to specialize in commissioned portraits in 1990.
The renowned beauty of Spring Lake, NJ with it's small town community shaped the direction of her idealistic portrayal of children
and the families with whom she works. Ayers finds inspiration in the paintings of Edgar Degas (1834-1917) and the French Impressionists.
In a similar way Ayers finds a balance between fine detail, painterly brush strokes and fresh hues to create vibrancy and motion. |
